'Preventing Depression' by Dr F Smit

In Dr Smit's recently published dissertation on 'Preventing Depression' he demonstrates that using a preventive approach to reducing depression would help to maintain the quality of life for many people which would in turn reduce the costs involved in treating the full blown condition.  He maintains that prevention is both feasible and effective.  Dr Smit also offers ideas on selecting target groups for prevention.

The book is split into four parts, each one addressing one of the following questions:

  1. Do we need prevention of depression?
  2. Do we know where to begin?
  3. Is it effective?
  4. Is it cost effective?

The book would be beneficial for policy-makers, researchers, prevention workers and anyoneone interested in preventing depression.
