SUICIDE-RELATED DEATHS IN AN ENLARGED EUROPEAN UNION

A monograph entitled ‘Suicide-related deaths in an Enlarged European Union has been produced by the ANAMORT Project (Analyse de la mortalité par traumatismes dans  l’Union Européenne).

The objective of this monograph is to provide producers and users of death statistics with a practical tool to help study deaths related to suicides.

The data contained in this monograph was produced by Eurostat from information provided by the health authorities of 33 European countries.  The data was used to describe trends, geographical distributions and demographical risks.

Through the reviewing of this literature it has been possible to:

  • Describe the limits of the observed differences
  • Develop  recommendations  for a better use of available data
  • Develop recommendations for a better production of future data
